Seeds of Insight 003 - Resurrecting Jesus
Dear You,
Happy Orthodox Easter! This is the tradition I grew up in and I have always loved the story of Jesus, so I felt compelled to share one of my favourite interpretations by Adyashanti. It is a different and beautiful perspective.
He talks about the need to resurrect the Christ in each and every one of us. And that means living life fully, in all of its colours, embracing both joy and pain. Nothing to transcend. Nothing to avoid.
“Many of us are used to a kind of spirituality in which transcendence is emphasized almost exclusively, in which the way to deal with suffering and tragedy is to transcend our humanity, transcend the world of time and space. But the Jesus story shows us that there’s a different way to look at our lives. There is a different spiritual movement, you might say, and it comes right at the beginning of the story when Spirit descends into Jesus. […] This a different perspective, to have eternity descending into the world of time and space. It’s not about getting out of the challenges of life, but about pouring oneself into life as an act of redemptive love.
[...]
The message of the Jesus story is that we must fully enter the world - and that the way to freedom is through pouring ourselves into life, through saying yes in the biggest boldest possible way. And we can only do that when we connect with that sense of well-being, which is love. Love doesn’t ultimately concern itself with questions like, “Am I having a great time?” It doesn’t concern itself with the ego’s search to have better and better experience. Love is a completely different energy. Love pours itself forth, gives itself fully; love finds its fulfilment by offering itself.”
